As someone who left former Yugoslavia for Australia in the 90’s, what you’ve seen in Hungary doesn’t sound that different from my neck of the woods. From what I’ve heard so far, every country ended up in debt to the European Union basically. Local banking, manufacture and mining interests were lost to foreign companies, whatever nationalistic political platforms promised ended up going in the opposite direction. You end up with no national identity whatsoever. Amazing how people keep voting for the same thing over and over.
